This is a traditional Andean style chullo hat, a knit earflap hat originating in the Andes region of South America, especially associated with Peru and Bolivia. The style became very popular in the United States and Europe during the late 1960s and 1970s folk fashion movement, when handmade Andean textiles were imported and sold in craft markets, ski shops, and bohemian boutiques.
