Product Details

Genuine shipwreck coin from Dutch East Indiaman (VOC) armed merchant ship Rooswijk. Carrying treasure and trade goods including a large consignment of silver for trading for spices to the East Indies, The Rooswijk sank in a storm in 1739 with all hands and not discovered again until 2004. This 8 reales coin was amongst the treasure recovered, a late cob coin, it is typical of the period where the strike was done without great care of most of the coins of this period were destined to be remelted and used to strike more modern coins with greater skill. Comes with certificate of authenticity, and history of the Rooswijk, the Dutch East India Company and Spanish Cob coins.
