This ritual shamanic mask originates from the Himalayan middle hills of Nepal, associated with ethnic groups such as the Gurung or Magar. Unlike carved wooden examples, this piece appears formed from Lingzhi fungus (Ganoderma lucidum), its naturally wrinkled and contoured structure shaped to suggest brow, nose, and facial presence. Such masks are used by shamans in rites of protection, healing, and exorcism, embodying spirits drawn from the surrounding landscape.
