It is naturally raw and unpolished, and price factors in condition.* This glamorous little beauty is known as a black Herkimer diamond quartz, an unusual variety of quartz found in Herkimer County, New York. Black Herkimers are more rare than clear particularly in clusters of this size. This particular cluster was self-collected from Birthday Pocket, Diamond Mountain, Little Falls, NY, in August 2020! It features double termination and twinning between two main crystals, with some abrasions and incomplete formations. Black inclusions in the cluster are a result of hydrocarbons and anthraxolite—they often have a lustrous appearance that is unique, and are heavily included throughout. There are also delicate phantom layers throughout, and lots of rainbows in these crystals! The rainbows likely formed as a result of the crystals’ intense and changing formation environment.
