The A1 PLATE inscription is a quality mark indicating the "best" or highest grade of silver plating used by the manufacturer. As shown in the photos, the specific multi-panel mark featuring an S, C, and is frequently seen on vintage silver-plated candle snuffers from Sheffield or Birmingham. Both snuffers have vintage patina or ware. One has more candlewax and smut. Nothing a good deep cleaning wouldn't bring back to shine.
