Product Details

Notes: Anactorium was a strategic ancient city located on the northern coast of Acarnania, a rugged region in west-central Greece known for its brave slingers and loose political confederacy. Founded as a Corinthian colony in the 7th century BCE, the city sat at the mouth of the Ambraciot Gulf and famously controlled the nearby sanctuary of Apollo Aktios. Throughout its history, it was a point of contention between Corinth, Corcyra, and the Acarnanian League, particularly during the Peloponnesian War when it was captured and integrated into the local league. The city eventually declined after the Battle of Actium (31 BCE), when Emperor Augustus relocated its population to the newly established city of Nicopolis.
