Notably published in 1867 with illustrations by Gustave Dore, Vivien, is a narrative poem by Alfred Terryson. It portrays the seductive, deceitful Vivien as she charms the aged magician Merlin to learn his secrets, ultimately trapping him in an oak tree. Front and rear panels are in good shape with minimal scuff marks. Shelfwear is present along the edges and corners with minor rubwear along the front gutter. Chipping of the fabric to the top and bottom of the spine and corners of the front and rear panels. Pencil marks exist on the blank flyleaf page. Front and rear hinges are cracked with webbing exposed in the front and minor exposure in the rear. There are several notable cracks in the binding throughout. Foxing is present throughout.
