Fun Facts: The game evolved from Menko, a traditional Japanese game (dating back to the Edo period) where players flip cards or pieces by throwing one on top of another. Japanese immigrants brought a version to Hawaii in the early 1900s. Kids there adapted it using cardboard milk bottle caps (or juice caps) instead of cards. In the 1970s, a Hawaiian juice brand called POG (short for Passionfruit, Orange, Guava) from Haleakala Dairy popularized the caps, and the name "Pogs" stuck for both the caps and the game.
