September 16. 1984 NBC introduced a sitcom that was out of the norm. Punky Brewster became very popular and opened the eyes to millions of viewers about foster care and the need for families. Punky was abandoned by her first father, then her mother in a Chicago shopping center with her dog Brandon. Saved by the grouchy Mr. Henry who was the building manager and widower, he fought hard to become Punkkys foster dad. They may have bicker at each other, but the love, security and family is what they both needed.
