Product Details

A Real Rarity 1934-A $5 Hawaii Overprint Note, a special emergency currency issued by the United States during World War II. These bills are distinguished by their brown Treasury seals, brown serial numbers, and the word "HAWAII" printed vertically on the front and large across the back. Historical Background Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government feared a Japanese invasion of Hawaii. To prevent captured currency from being used by enemy forces, the Treasury issued these distinctive overprint notes starting in July 1942. Rarity While the feared invasion never happened, these notes were largely recalled and destroyed after the war, making surviving examples collectible today.
