This is #2 of 2 available (sold separately!) Vintage Shigaraki-style Tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) condiment dispenser, or small teapot. In Japanese culture, tanuki figures are celebrated symbols of good fortune and prosperity. Use: While similar items are often used as soy sauce dispensers (shoyu-sashi) or for other seasonings, this specific design with a spout and lid also functions as a small teapot. Design: It features a round, pot-bellied tanuki wearing a traditional straw hat, which serves as the lid. The character is shown holding a calabash gourd (hyotan), another symbol of luck. Origin: This style of pottery is known as Shigaraki-yaki, originating from one of Japan's oldest kiln regions in Shiga Prefecture. Brand: SETO Craft Measures: 3.75” H w/ lid x 3.5” W Condition: Excellent Used Vintage condition.
