It forms in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites where mineral-rich fluids crystallize under heat and pressure. Its green color is caused by trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium within the crystal structure. These specimens typically show hexagonal crystal forms with natural inclusions, fractures, and matrix material, often mounted on a metal stand to display the raw structure.
