President Wilson sends thanks for a translation of a letter from Sergei Witte, the first prime minister of the Russian Empire TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, August 4, 1913. Letter to Herman Bernstein, the founder and editor of the Jewish daily newspaper The Day. In full: "Thank you warmly for retailing to me the contents of the letter from Count Sergius Witte you have just received. It aids my thought materially." In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, and blurring to the type slightly affecting readability. Sergei Witte served as the first prime minister of the Russian Empire from November 1905 to May 1906, replacing the tsar as head of the government.
