Product Details
Miniature Pre-Columbian Jalisco Pottery Figure, ca. 300 BCE–300 CE, Mexico. Charming hand-modeled miniature figure with expressive facial features, pronounced nose, and cylindrical headdress or coiffure. The figure retains strong areas of original red-orange slip with cream-painted surface details, characteristic of ancient West Mexican ceramic traditions. The compact proportions and abstract sculptural style are typical of Jalisco shaft tomb figures, often created as funerary offerings accompanying the deceased. Surface shows attractive earthen deposits, mineral accretions, and age wear consistent with long burial. A highly displayable and whimsical example of West Mexican miniature pottery art. Ex E. Bermudez Collection, Tucson, AZ (family descent).
