Superb modernist enamel-on-copper brooch signed by Passillé-Sylvestre. Designed in Quebec by the famous couple of self-taught artists Micheline de Passillé and Yves Sylvestre. They were the leaders of the art enameling movement in Quebec between the 1960s and 1980s.Their Role: Yves was mainly responsible for cutting and shaping the metal, while Micheline designed the patterns and managed the application of the colorful enamels. If you turn the piece over, you should find their characteristic signature engraved by hand or stamped: "de Passillé-Sylvestre - Fait au Québec - Made in Canada". A highly graphic abstract or plant-like motif, typical of the Mid-Century Modern (MCM) aesthetic. Technique: A striking contrast between the golden texture of the champlevé copper and the brilliance of the vitrified turquoise enamel in the center. These Canadian art jewelry pieces are highly sought-after collector's items today."
