A classic Roman Imperial silver denarius of Tiberius, struck at the Lugdunum mint. This is the famous type traditionally associated with the biblical “Tribute Penny,” connected by many collectors to the passage where Jesus is asked about paying taxes to Caesar. The obverse shows Tiberius Caesar, successor of Augustus. The reverse depicts Livia, mother of Tiberius and widow of Augustus, seated as Pax, holding a long scepter and olive branch.
