Sterling silver oval souvenir brooch depicting the Hudson River Day Line steamer “New York”, inscribed STEAMER and NEW YORK around the border with a die-struck relief of the vessel in profile. The Hudson River Day Line steamer “New York” was built in 1887 and ran popular excursion routes out of New York City until it was destroyed in 1908. The C-catch and trombone-style pin mechanism on the back is consistent with pre-1910 American jewelry manufacture. Marked STERLING on reverse. Shows age patina and wear consistent with its age. Pin mechanism intact and functional. Measures 7/8” by 5/8”. A genuine piece of Hudson River and New York City maritime ephemera from the height of the Day Line excursion era.
