A Roman Imperial silver antoninianus of Trajan Decius, struck during his short and turbulent reign from AD 249–251. Decius ruled during a time of military pressure, plague, and instability in the third-century Roman Empire. The obverse shows Decius with the radiate crown used on antoniniani. The reverse depicts Dacia standing left, holding a draco standard or staff — a striking reference to the province of Dacia and Rome’s frontier world.
