This Antique necklace is an extraordinary find! From the Miao or Yao Tribe originating in S.W. China. This large pendant necklace features a 4.5” x 3” fish pendant comprised of chimes and conical tassels. The cubed braided chain is completely handmade. Antique Chinese fish pendants typically symbolize wealth, fertility, and marital harmony. They are found in two main categories: classical carved jade (like double carp) and ethnic tribal pieces (like this one , hand-carved silver and embroidery from the Miao minority). This outstanding necklace weighs 135.2g or 4.76oz. The chain alone measures 25” long and the pendant measures 4.5“ x 3“ Note there are two empty loops under the fish pendant’s belly that I believe are intended to be empty so that the center tassel has room to flow without being crowded.
