Beautiful antique European porcelain tile plaque hand painted with the portrait of a young woman leaning against an ornate balcony rail, signed and dated 1896 lower right. The composition has a wonderfully romantic Continental feel with soft muted tones, delicate detailing in the lace garments, and expressive hand-painted brushwork throughout. Mounted in a later wood frame and displayed on point in the traditional diamond orientation, giving it a very old world presentation. A lovely decorative cabinet piece for layered European interiors, gallery walls, or shelf styling. Retains age-related craquelure and surface wear consistent with antique porcelain and painted ceramic works of the late 19th century.
