Historical Context The CCC was a major work relief program from 1933 to 1942 that provided jobs for millions of young, unemployed men during the Great Depression. In Minnesota, over 70,000 men served in roughly 145 camps, working primarily on forestry, park construction, and soil conservation projects. Life in the CCC Military Structure: Camps were run with military-style discipline; enrollees lived in barracks, wore uniforms, and followed daily schedules including morning reveille. Wages: Workers typically earned $30 per month, of which $25 was sent home to their families to provide financial support.
