Karl Otto Himmler (1841–1903) was a renowned German optical engineer. He established his own firm in Berlin in 1877, which gained an international reputation for high-quality microscopes, accessories, and microphotography equipment. Interestingly, Himmler is also credited with manufacturing the first-ever contact lenses in 1887 to correct high myopia.
