Product Details

This is an authentic, gold-filled, highly sentimental mourning or keepsake locket from the late Victorian or Edwardian eras (circa 1890-1900). Keeping hair inside a locket was a common practice during the 19th and early 20th centuries. While often associated with mourning a deceased loved one, hair lockets were also frequently exchanged between living sweethearts, family members, or parents and children as an enduring token of deep personal connection. The Maiden Profile: The high-relief repoussé face of the woman with flowing, organic hair symbolizes natural beauty and femininity, which are central themes of the Art Nouveau movement. The Star Flower: The five-pointed flower on the right is meticulously hand-set with clear paste stones (antique leaded glass rhinestones common in jewelry of this period). In historical jewelry language, flowers often symbolized thoughts of a loved one or remembrance.
