Product Details

Pre-Columbian Cajamarca pottery spoon from Peru, dating to ca. 500–1000 CE. Finely modeled in terracotta, the spoon features a shallow bowl and an elongated handle terminating in a stylized animal head. Pottery spoons of this type are associated with the Cajamarca culture of the northern Peruvian highlands and are believed to have served ceremonial, ritual, or elite domestic functions. The piece displays attractive earthen deposits and surface wear consistent with age and burial. A scarce and highly collectible form from one of ancient Peru’s most distinctive ceramic traditions. Provenance: Ex Tim J. Rent Collection, New York. Ex NY Estate of an Anthropology University Professor who researched the prehistoric development of complex societies in Peru and Bolivia.
