Original WWI U.S. Army Model 1916 leather holster for the Colt M1911 .45 automatic. Stamped “C.W.E.” (Clinton W. Eaton), an inspector associated with Rock Island Arsenal during WWI production. Additional faint stamped characters above initials. Retains the classic oval “U.S.” stamp on the flap used on U.S. military holsters of the period. Features include: • Original belt hanger w/ wire hooks for the M1910 belt • Correct Model 1916 reinforced front panel construction • Original WWI russet leather finish w/ honest service wear The Model 1916 holster was the standard U.S. Army sidearm holster used during WWI and continued in service into WWII. It was issued to infantry, officers, mps, artillery crews, and mounted troops. Great authentic piece of early U.S. military equipment for collectors!
