Artist Undefined Untitled Platter, 2016 Spartaware earthenware with hand-applied glazes This signed square platter was handmade in Sparta, Tennessee, as indicated by the impressed Spartaware mark on the reverse. Dated 2016, the piece features a vibrant abstract composition of buttery yellow, vivid orange, coral red, and soft celadon green glazes layered across a speckled earthenware surface. Although entirely nonrepresentational, the sweeping forms and bold diagonal movement evoke the dramatic silhouette of a tropical bloom, reminiscent of a Bird of Paradise flower unfolding across the platter.
