Product Details

This is a vintage silver tone brooch depicting a French revolutionary Minuteman figure standing atop the stone fortress walls of the Bastille, alongside a tablet inscribed with the "Déclaration des Droits de l'Homme et du Citoyen" (Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen). This declaration was the foundational document of the French Revolution drafted in 1909 and adopted in August 1789. The figure is wearing the classic historical garb of an 18th-century revolutionary soldier or militia member, brandishing a weapon or tool in defiance, and is standing directly on top of castle towers, representing the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789.
