1) Quit buying items from these sellers that are telling you “Unsearched” , If it’s open it’s not unsearched, you can buy just know it’s searched. Unless it’s a US Mint sealed roll or sealed bank roll (and sometimes that is searched) it’s been searched. If it’s being sold by a “dedicated” coin reseller, do you really think they are going to let a “Key Date” coin, Variety, Error or such slip through their fingers due to not knowing what they are selling and lose that possible profit for you to find. (2) Quit buying from these sellers that are telling you “Silver is going to be back to $100 so now’s the time to buy” , these sellers don’t know, no one knows, still looking for that reseller of silver bullion that doesn’t tout rising Silver prices coming while screaming “Bid it Up Chat, Don’t lose it over a buck, Silver be going to be pushing $100 again soon”. Don’t buy into reseller speculation hype and their sale driven FOMO. (3) Quit buying into these sellers “Blind Bags” and “Chaser Wheel / Pull Games” , it’s usually items they know they can’t sell for the item itself at a profit, you’re going to be on the losing side of value, usually significantly. “Chaser Wheel / Pull Games” there is only going to be one individual close to purchased value, the majority of the time it’s not going to be you, and if it is, it still often falls short of reasonable value due to in how the game is designed. (4) Quit buying so called Errors from sellers saying “Look how much this coin is Doubled”, they likely don’t know the difference between a Double Die and Machine / Strike Doubling, or worse they do know the difference and know you don’t, and rely on you not knowing any other die markers, indicators or characteristics. These are usually the same resellers that don’t know DCAM and Ultra Cameo are the same quality level of a coin, just two different companies grading terms. (5) Get yourself a “Redbook”, “Mega Red Book”, “Cherrypickers” Guide, “Strike it Rich with Pocket Change”. Learn Mintages, Key Dates, Errors, and the like, Educate yourself. Collect what you like, attempt being interested in the design, rarity, history of coins you find interesting, and not completely focused on value and pulled into the seller driven fear of missing out of a buy. (6) And Lastly, Don’t pay for the above advice, or my opinions, as a Collector I have extremely different views and standards of how I approach the collecting hobby, most “resellers’ and ‘flippers” aren’t going to like the above advice. But as their opinion doesn’t hold any weight with me, my opinion shouldn’t hold any weight with them or you. If by chance you are compelled to pay for the above advise, I’ll send you a random readable date Indian Head Cent, random readable date Liberty Head V Nickel, and random readable date Buffalo Nickel, dates may be light but will be confirmable.
