Product Details

c. 1935 Iran / Persia stamp - print error no I at start of IRANIENNES Iranian stamp from 1935, part of the wave of overprints made when Persia officially changed its international name to Iran. The original stamp underneath is from the 1929 Reza Shah Pahlavi definitive series (“Postes Persanes”), showing the Shah in military uniform and his signature Pahlavi cap, set in an ornate olive-green frame. Following Reza Shah’s request in March 1935 that the country be called “Iran” rather than “Persia” internationally, existing stamp stocks like the 1929 Reza Shah series were overprinted with “POSTES IRANIENNES.”
