A charming early 20th-century oil painting depicting cattle standing in a quiet stream beneath mature trees. Rich earth tones, beautiful reflections in the water, and expressive brushwork give this pastoral scene wonderful warmth and character. The painting is executed in oil on artist’s board and remains housed in what appears to be its original faux burlwood frame with carved inner molding. The reverse retains a Fitzgerald Box Art Co. label from Holyoke, Massachusetts, along with early wire and nail construction consistent with the period. The board itself has an irregular hand-cut edge typical of older artist panels. The painting is signed (possibly A. Schirch, though the signature has not been positively identified). Measures approximately 14.25” x 8.25” overall. A beautiful piece for a gallery wall, library, study, or cottage-inspired space.
