Great to make slabs, polish, tumble, or make jewelry with. Llanite is an extremely rare type of porphyritic rhyolite (a volcanic rock with the same composition as granite). Named after Llano County, Texas, the only place it is found, it is famous for its distinctive dark reddish-brown base speckled with striking, purplish-blue quartz and pinkish-red feldspar crystals. Llanite is believed to have formed roughly 1.1 billion years ago during the Grenville Orogeny mountain-building event. Its unique appearance is the result of a two-stage cooling process. In the metaphysical and crystal healing communities, Llanite is affectionately called the "Texas Sparkle Stone."
