🌹Note it will be folded in half for shipping. Tammany Issue June 27,1900. Height of Puck Influence. Color cover. The cartoon depicts American imperialism in the aftermath of the Spanish-American War and during the Philippine-American War. The drowning figure is labeled “LAWYER”, while the Roman-style rescuer represents American power. The life preserver appears to read “American Sovereignty and Beneficent Power” (partially obscured in the photo). The iceberg is labeled “Ice Trust”, referring to the controversial ice monopoly that was causing public outrage in New York around 1900. The artist is almost certainly one of Puck’s major cartoonists, likely Udo Keppler or Louis Dalrymple, both well known for political satire of that * Colors still appear fairly strong. * There is noticeable edge wear and wrinkling. * The image itself presents well enough for display or framing.
