The blue lyretail (Fundulopanchax gardneri) is a hardy, colorful killifish from Nigeria and Cameroon, known for its vibrant blue body, red spots, and yellow-tipped fins in males, making it a popular and easy-to-breed species for beginners. Also called the steel-blue or Gardner's killi, it thrives in planted tanks with soft, slightly acidic water and a diet of flakes, frozen, or live foods, and is best kept in groups (like a trio of one male to two females) to prevent male aggression.
