Furnivals Quail in warm sepia brown - a pair of quail nestled beneath a blossoming prunus branch with peony and palm, ringed by a delicate key-and-leaf aesthetic border. A jewel-box little plate with real chinoiserie character. / SPECS: approx. 4.5 in. diameter, scalloped rim. Brown transferware on cream earthenware. Pattern: Quail by Furnivals. Mark: FURNIVALS QUAIL, quail-and-branch device dated 1913, MADE IN ENGLAND, Rd No 684771. / HISTORY: Furnivals (1913) Ltd of Cobridge, Staffordshire produced the Quail pattern through the 20th century - it carries registry number 684771 and the 1913 Furnivals company device, placing production from the 1920s onward. Quail's aesthetic-movement birds and blossom are most often found in brown and blue.
