Pre-Columbian Colima pottery standing figure from West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE–300 CE. This charming example depicts a standing individual with folded arms, large ear spools, an incised loincloth, and an elaborate headdress or coiffure. The figure displays the expressive facial features and sculptural style for which Colima artisans are renowned. Small figural sculptures such as this were often placed in shaft tombs as funerary offerings and are among the most recognizable forms of ancient West Mexican art. The piece exhibits a warm terracotta surface with ancient mineral deposits, burial encrustations, and expected wear consistent with age. The compact proportions and confident hand-modeling give the figure a distinctive personality and strong visual presence despite its modest size. Height: 4 3/8 inches. Provenance: Ex E.
