Product Details

Notes: Marcus Porcius Laeca was a Roman mint magistrate (triumvir monetalis) who issued a celebrated silver denarius in 125 BCE. The coin's front features the helmeted head of Roma, while the back depicts Libertas driving a four-horse chariot (quadriga) being crowned by Victory. This imagery was a deliberate political statement, reminding voters of Laeca's ancestor, Publius Porcius Laeca, a tribune who authored the Leges Porciae—landmark laws that protected Roman citizens from arbitrary execution by giving them the right to appeal a magistrate's death sentence.
