It's Korean Najeon Chilgi — the ancient art of hand-cut mother of pearl and abalone inlaid into lacquerware — and the detail on this one is extraordinary. The lid features a full peacock scene with iridescent abalone shell tail feathers that shift color in the light, surrounded by blossoms and butterflies. The body is deep burgundy lacquer with vivid red marbling throughout. The front clasp is a beautifully detailed silver-tone turtle — a Korean symbol of longevity and good fortune. Inside: rich red velvet lining( minor ink marks) and a fitted mirror in the lid. Shows minor surface nicks and one small spot of uneven lacquer on the front; does not expose wood. Bottom edge has a small area of reduced gloss. Overall very good vintage condition. Top inlay is perfect. Measures approximately 4" x 3.5" x 2.25". Retail value: $89
