Original black-and-white gelatin-silver snapshot showing a decorated motor road roller with handmade signs reading “Furman Steamroller Co.” and “Mash ’em Furman Mash ’em!” The scene appears to be a Furman University football-spirit, homecoming or pep-event display, probably photographed in Greenville, South Carolina, during the late 1940s or early 1950s. The roller is decorated with paper garlands, and a young man poses beside the display. Furman’s football team was known as the Purple Hurricane during this period, before Paladins became the official name for all university teams in 1961.
