Product Details

This is an Egyptian Revival winged scarab brooch, an iconic piece of antique costume jewelry likely dating from the Art Deco era (circa 1920s–1930s), a period heavily influenced by the 1922 discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb. The front design centers on a shimmering iridescent green enamel scarab beetle—representing rebirth and creation in ancient Egyptian mythology—flanked by protective stylized Uraeus cobras and expansive bi-color feathered wings that symbolize the sun god Khepri. The reverse side reveals a gilded brass or bronze construction, evidenced by the green verdigris oxidation near the soldering points, and features a classic rotating safety catch clasp typical of early-20th-century craftsmanship.
