Exceptional Victorian mourning-era bar brooch dating to approximately 1865–1885. Features a faceted French jet (black glass) center beautifully wrapped with hand-applied cut steel accents and mounted in an ornate gilt brass frame. This is a wonderful example of Victorian craftsmanship. Instead of using just one material, the jeweler combined French jet for rich black color, hand-faceted cut steel for sparkle, and gilt brass for warmth. Under candlelight, the steel would shimmer while the French jet stayed a deep, elegant black.
