Tattered and worn but still beautiful!! I wondered why the corner was stitched and @chic_antiques came in clutch with the following: Wheel clearance: Keeping the corner folded back reduced the risk of it getting caught in the wheels or hubs. Access to carriage controls: The folded corner could leave room for the driver's foot brake, reins, whip socket, or other hardware. A better fit: Carriage quilts were tucked snugly around passengers' legs. Stitching one corner back may have helped the quilt conform to the shape of the seat or wrap around the occupant with less bulk. as seen on live and in photos
