This coin was made for the Dutch shortly following their liberation from Nazi occupation, a significant celebration. It remains in nearly uncirculated condition despite being over 80 years old, a staggering feat. As the country was poised for liberation, the government in exile (the legitimate democratic government) signed a deal with the US to have several million 25 cent pieces made in Philadelphia so that Dutch approved silver coinage could immediately begin circulating again, not the Nazi zinc designs.
