1975 pair - 2 x 50 - India Stamp pair - birds - posted 22nd January 1980 ref MerenzaStamps Design & Bird Identity Mix-up: The stamp features a bird in mid-flight. Officially, the Department of Posts in India listed this design as a "Flying Crane" (often associated with the Demoiselle Crane or Virgin Crane). However, there is a fascinating backstory: the design was actually created using a photograph taken in Bharatpur by famed ornithologist and photographer Peter Jackson. The bird he photographed was actually an Intermediate Egret (Mesophoyx intermedia), making the "crane" designation a postal misnomer!
