Vintage 1950s 1960s 1970s Sterling Silver Joe and Lola Hechilay Zuni Fish Scale Turquoise Inlay Belt Buckle 3” x 2.5” This particular husband and wife Zuni Artist duo was active in making jewelry between the 1950s and 1990s. This belt buckle is exceptionally special as it is signed by BOTH of them and not just one. This belt buckle is dated between 1950s - 1970s when they were most active and mostly known for this style work. There does appear to be a single chip to one of the inlay pieces. But this also could be how it was made as well. As each of these inlay pieces were hand cut. “Joe and Lola Hechilay were respected Zuni Pueblo silversmiths known for their traditional "fish scale" (or "cobblestone") mosaic inlay. Active from the 1950s into the 1990s, their distinctive channel-inlay designs utilize hand-cut natural turquoise and silver wire.” Acid tested to confirm sterling silver.
