This set contains four of the oldest fossils in existence ranging from over 3.5 billion years ago through 250 million years ago. This set includes brachiopods which are 525 million years old and still survived today in small numbers. They have bilateral symmetrical left side same as right side shells that are hinged together at the back and can be opened at the front for feeding or protection, Stromatolites which are the oldest fossils on earth going back 3.5 billion years ago. They are created by cyanobacteria provided oxygen for other lifeforms to be able to exist on earth, clams often called bivalves because they have two hinged shells and first appeared over 500 million years ago and still exist today and Crinoids also called sea lilies because they resemble flowers and their stem attaches their bodies to the sea floor. They’ve been around 490 million years & went extinct 250 million years ago. They are related to sea urchins, starfish, & sand dollars.
