This is a Brass Horse with Gold overlay in a Dappling pattern Made of Brass and Gold Overlay. Weighs 3.26g Estimated to be from the Edo Period 1700-1868. The menuki are the decorative metal ornaments the are woven under the tsuka-ito (handle wrapping). These ornaments were originally made to hide the mekugi pins that secure the tsuka to the tang of the blade. The horse is shown in a curled or rolling pose with a flowing main, jumping motion, and gold painted dappling. Gold decoration on sword fittings was associated with prestige, wealth, and high-quality workmanship, and was commonly used by samurai and wealthy patrons throughout the Edo period
