Besides convenience of location it is important that the site is well drained. Several materials are readily available for the bin's foundation. Concrete blocks are recommended, but other material such as tile, creosoted wood, etc., are also suit-able. Cinder blocks, however, must not be used as they have a corrosive action which rapidly destroys the metal. Driving a stake for the center of the bin is the first step in preparing your foundation. A wood two by four, longer than half the diameter of the bin, is then used as a straight edge to determine the highest and lowest points of the ground upon which the foundation will be laid. The lowest point must not be more than eight inches lower than the exact center of the foundation if concrete blocks are used.
