Beautiful vintage covered butter dish with matching underplate featuring colorful scenic transfers of Hamburg, Germany, including views labeled “Jungfernstieg” and “Kersten Milesbrücke m. Seewarte.” The porcelain has a lovely iridescent (mother-of-pearl/lusterware) finish, accented with rich burgundy trim and delicate gold gilt detailing, including an elegant gold-tone ring handle on the lid. Although unmarked, this style is consistent with German souvenir porcelain produced for the tourist trade during the 1920s–1940s. Similar pieces were commonly made by porcelain factories in Germany, such as those in the Bavaria region, but without a maker’s mark, a specific manufacturer cannot be confirmed.
