Product Details

Beautiful mid-19th century Victorian gold-filled photographic locket featuring an original antique portrait of a woman. The engine-turned (guilloché) case is decorated with two different hand-engraved medallions—one with an idyllic landscape scene and the other with an elegant floral scroll design. The locket retains its original early photograph, believed to be a daguerreotype or possibly an ambrotype, dating to approximately the 1850s. The image is protected by its original convex glass, which unfortunately has a crack but still displays the portrait well. The case opens and closes properly and shows honest age-related wear consistent with a piece that is over 160 years old. A wonderful example of Victorian sentimental jewelry and early photography, perfect for collectors of daguerreotypes, mourning jewelry, antique lockets, or Civil War-era memorabilia.
