Rare 1677 French edition of Étienne Pasquier’s Le Catéchisme des Jésuites, ou Le Mystère d’Iniquité, a fierce anti-Jesuit polemic first published in 1602 and later condemned by Rome. Printed with the suspicious “Ville-franche / Guillaume Grenier” imprint, this compact duodecimo survives in period calf with raised bands, gilt spine decoration, red-stained edges, and extensive original character. Most remarkable is its handwritten provenance: “à la Bibliothèque des Augustins d’Amiens,” together with the historic shelfmark G.G. 114, proving that this controversial work once stood in the library of the Augustinian friars of Amiens. The monastery’s books were later swept into Revolutionary confiscations after religious houses were suppressed.
